Erosion

At the coastline of large lakes (e.g. Lake Erie in Cleveland, USA) wind and swell cause erosion. Without structural support the shoreline will constantly change. Since these supporting constructions are very expensive and can harm nature, they will only be implemented if there is no other solution.
Important soil parameters are monitored at critical points by sensors. The SMT100 of TRUEBNER is ideally suited for the determination of soil water content and provides reliable readings.

Composting

A large amount of biological waste will be recovered in silos, composting facilities and biogas plants. In many cases it is desirable to obtain information about the temperature and moisture changes during the composting process in order to ensure a fast and clean reaction of the material.

The moisture sensor SMT100 of TRUEBNER is very suitable for use in soil and composting plants due to its resilience against organic acids.

Sand island

Water supply is an important issue in the heavily populated coastal regions in Eastern Australia.Sand islands are one of the most importan fresh water ressources in Queensland. So far, the water balance processes including infiltration and influence of vegetation are not fully understood and have to be investigated.

Desert

Deserts are among the driest places on earth. Water is the crucial basis for life. Measuring systems can help to identify and optimal use the few existing water resources.

TRUEBNERs proven soil moisture sensor SMT100 is perfectly suitable for measuring in sandy soils. Heat and frequent temperature changes between day and night do not harm the rugged sensor.

Snow Moisture

Snow moisture is an interesting parameter for assessing avalanche danger. Measurement systems at critical locations in the mountains therefore provide a better safety.

TRUEBNER has modified the sensor SMT100 for a research project on snow moisture measurement. A white body and white cable guarantee minimum heat uptake from solar radiation. The sensor does not melt the surrounding snow and thus has always good contact with it.

Terrarium

Professional terrariums have high demands on the optimal climate conditions for exotic plants and animals. Frequently special substrates are used, in which the plants grow. An automated irrigation system is controlled by soil moisture measurements. The soil temperature is also important for some plants and controlled by a heater.

The soil moisture sensor SMT100 of TRUEBNER is used in this application, for example in terrariums at the zoo in Stuttgart, Germany. The experts of the company Bambach Tensiotechnik replaced conventional tensiometers to determine the suction pressure in the substrate.
